Calxeda Leads Rush Toward Low Power

Four years ago, Calxeda Inc. was a tiny startup at the Austin Technology Incubator, and nobody except the nerdiest information technology experts was talking about the advantages of low-power servers that could be deployed in enormous numbers.

But things have changed. Since its inception, Calxeda has been working on the design for the system chips that would run a new generation of low-power servers. Now it has the actual working silicon prototypes — and the company is building them into systems that early customers can test and evaluate.
